Ideas, otherwise known as little hiccups in the brain.

The new idea shouldn't be an idea, but I have to live with it anyway. Shouldn't have been allowed into my brain in the first place, but there is less and less control with these things I suppose.

Mini golf. Seriously.

I'm not kidding. I'm thinking about large book structures, a bunch of volumes, looking like grand, hardbound, special books dedicated to classical antiquity or the English language, or to misdeeds of American presidents; and then, "Viola!" open the book and out cascades mini golf holes. Little hazards sculpted out of paper.

The move.

Just about a month ago I was awarded a studio residency at Gallery Aferro in Newark, NJ. This fall, after putting together the application and requisite writings and portfolio requirements, I put the whole lot of it in the mail and hoped for the best. And the first part of 'the best' happened - the studio space will be mine for the term of 6 months, and I will be granted a solo show after the residency has concluded. Now, it is wait and see for the second part of that best - the money (commissions, tutoring, and grants) - to be figured out.
The above photograph is of the raw space, just a few of my things in it after "move-in" this weekend. I am one of five residents at Aferro, and I am thrilled at the prospect of working in such close proximity to artists all being granted the same thing - space, access to community, and access to resources.
The other artists in residency are located on the Aferro website (see People, Places, Things).

The Art of Numbers

I have a few pieces in an upcoming show "The Art of Numbers" at Good Question Gallery in Milford, PA. This is noteworthy for a few reasons; first of which is that show marks the opening of the art space as well - a great venture by artist/curator Rich Cuttrona. Two other great reasons are the other artists - Lisa Zukowski (lisaz.com) and Monica Goldsmith (monicagoldsmith.com).
